Zanskar: It is a neighbouring region of Ladakh which is a tri-armed valley system. Zanskar is surrounded with valleys and high mountains. It is also covered with snow peaks and two small altitude lakes. It is also famous for its Drang-Drung glacier. The different tourist attractions of Zanskar include Himalayan Valley which is very difficult to inhabit. The winter period is very long as compared to summer in Zanskar. The climate of the Zanskar in summer is warm and dry. In summer the rain and snowfall is very scarce. During winter the snowfall is at its extreme which is also important to feed the glaciers which melt in summer season. Zanskar is mainly inactive for at least 8 months due to long period of winter season. In winter there is heavy snowfall that blocks all the passes, routes. Zangla: It is lying in north arm of Zanskar and it is 35 km away from Padum.
Zongkhul: It is famous for its caves which are the present monasteries. It is believed that Indian Yogi Naropa meditated in these two caves. There is a footprint of the Yogi in the lower cave which proves that he was staying there.
Stongdey: It lies 18 km away from Padum in north side. This is founded by old Tibetan Yogi Marpa. It is famous as the second largest monastery of Zanskar. It is difficult to climb up the monastery but once reached, the view of the valley is breathtaking.
Panikhar: The major attraction of Panikhar is fort of Zorawar Singh. It is border of the Suru Valley.
Penzella Pass: It divides the Zanskar valley with Suru Valley. It got fame because of its majestic mountains.
Karsha: It is famous for Gelupa monastery. This monastery realizes the importance of religion in the inhabitants of Zanskar. |
